Roger had no income and was not the record owner of the house.  He had suffered a head injury which made it difficult for him to manage money and complete tasks.  He didn’t want to stay in the house, but needed money in order to move out.  In September, the Bank foreclosed on Roger’s house, although they never initiated an eviction action.

MWLS stepped in and coordinated with a social worker to conduct a housing search.  They next arranged for the Board of Health to evaluate the house.  After several negotiations, the bank finally agreed to put Roger up in a hotel and provide a per diem allowance for several weeks due to the heating problem.  More negotiations resulted in a cash-for-keys settlement with the foreclosing bank for $15,000. Once the case was settled, MWLS sent a letter on Roger’s behalf so he could access shelter benefits.
